The parent of Standard Insurance Company has named a new chief executive officer.

J. Greg Ness, who has been president and chief operating officer at StanCorp Financial Group Inc., Portland, Ore., will become the company’s president and CEO July 1, StanCorp says.

Ness will take over the CEO title from Eric Parsons, StanCorp’s chairman and CEO.

Ness also has been appointed to the StanCorp board.

Parsons will continue to be the company’s chairman, StanCorp says.

Ness began working for Standard Insurance in 1979. StanCorp announced the decision to make him president of the company in September 2008.
