The Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education has summoned a new superhero, Captain Indestructible, to rescue Americans from vulnerability to loss of income due to illness or injury.

LIFE, Arlington, has cast Captain Indestructible in a Disability Insurance Awareness Month Web video to convey that message that mere mortals need disability insurance.

“People in their prime working years may be healthy and have all of the energy in the world, but they’re not indestructible,” LIFE President Marvin Feldman says.

LIFE will be working with many insurers and insurance industry groups to organize the 2009 disability month starting May 1.

In addition to creating Captain Indestructible and his Web video, LIFE has created a producer’s kit that includes free, downloadable fliers and customizable news releases. The kit is available here.

LIFE also will be posting a new lifetime earnings calculator; releasing results of a disability cost survey co-sponsored with America’s Health Insurance Plans, Washington; and distributing radio public service announcements featuring a nurse who was out of work for nearly a year after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
