OptumHealth Inc. has developed a system that can help doctors, hospitals and health plan administrators see the same information about a patient’s health.

The system, the eSync platform, can give everyone involved in a patient’s care who has the proper permissions a “big picture” view of the patient’s health, according to OptumHealth, Golden Valley, Minn., a unit of UnitedHealth Group Inc., Minnetonka, Minn.

The system draws on data such as claims data, lab results, pharmacy claims, self-reported data, and “behavioral and life-stage segmentation information,” OptumHealth says.

When UnitedHealth was testing the system, it found that its care management staff members could use the data to increase the percentage of patients complying with chronic health condition management recommendations by 20%, OptumHealth says.
