A consulting firm has released a new edition of product that many insurers use to support utilization review and case management teams.

Milliman Care Guidelines L.L.C., a unit of Milliman Inc., Seattle, has published the 13th edition of the Milliman Care Guidelines.

About 1,000 clients, including 7 of the 8 largest managed care organizations, use the guidelines, Milliman says.

The newest edition includes “crosswalk documents” that show how the Milliman guidelines mesh with guidelines supported by organizations and agencies such as the National Committee for Quality Assurance, Washington, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Milliman says.

The new edition also includes new neonatal care guidelines for Medicaid-specific issues; new patient discharge handouts about topics such as nutrition and activity level; and coverage about handling specific problems, such as helping children who are recovering from health problems and still have special health care needs.
