The philanthropic arm of a managed care company is supporting a group that helps promote the need to compare the costs and benefits of medical treatment options.

The United Health Foundation, an affiliate of UnitedHealth Group Inc., Minnetonka, Minn., has given $65,000 to Research!America, Washington, to fund the group’s efforts to “inform policymakers, opinion leaders, news media and the public about the importance of investing in medical and health research,” the group says.

The grant will help Research!America make the case for evidence-based health and health care delivery, according to Mary Woolley, the group’s president.
