A free personal financial benchmarking system gives consumers a chance to see how they compare with other consumers in terms of saving, spending and investing.

The Windsor, Conn., retirement operations of ING Groep N.V., Amsterdam, have posted the Peer Comparison Web tool at http://www.INGCompareMe.com

Users can create accounts and enter personal financial information for use in the comparisons without providing names, electronic-mail addresses or other forms of identification, ING says.

ING has created the comparison data used in the tool by drawing on a recent survey of 5,165 adults who participate in workplace retirement savings plans.

The researchers who conducted the survey found, for example, that savers who spent more time with financial professionals accumulated 60% more than those who did not spend any time with financial professionals, ING says.
