Mid-West National Life Insurance Company of Tennessee has started issuing the CoverFirst: A Scheduled Benefit Plan and the Protection PPO Plan.

Mid-West, a unit of HealthMarkets Inc., North Richland Hills, Texas, has designed the products for individuals and families, HealthMarkets says.

The CoverFirst plan is a “scheduled benefit plan” aimed at individuals who cannot afford major medical coverage, HealthMarkets says.

The plan provides a deductible of $5,000 or less along with basic coverage for minor illnesses and injuries, HealthMarkets says.

The ProtectionPlus PPO preferred provider organization plan could have a deductible as high as $10,000 but provides more traditional health insurance coverage with a defined coinsurance maximum, HealthMarkets says.

The products are available in 20 states and the District of Columbia.

The CoverFirst product is also available in Maryland and Wyoming, HealthMarkets says.
