A health price database company says it wants to publish more information about its methods.

Ingenix, a unit of UnitedHealth Group Inc., Minnetonka, Minn., says it has published its market-leading Episode Treatment Groups health care measurement methodology for public review and input, to help health policymakers create programs that reward doctors and hospitals for providing efficient, high-quality care.

“Ingenix plans to make additional leading measurement methodologies transparent and available for review in the coming months,” the company says.

In addition to providing data for health care “pay for performance” programs, Ingenix supplies pricing services that many health insurers use to estimate appropriate prices for out-of-network claims.

New York state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo has accused some health insurers of misusing Ingenix data to hold down payments to out-of-network physicians and has been encouraging health insurers to contribute to a fund that will be used to start a nonprofit competitor.
