Nurses are the stars of an expanded short-term disability insurance case planning effort.
Hartford Financial Services Group Inc., Hartford, says it will be offering nurse-run claim intake and management services for all group STD clients with 50 or more workers.
Hartford began offering the nurse-run claim management program to some large STD clients 4 years ago.
When a nurse begins talking to an employee about a case, the nurse will establish a list of case management milestones, Hartford says.
The nurse also will talk to the employee’s doctor to gather more information.
The nurses can call in medical and behavioral health case managers in some cases. In other cases, the system automatically will flag cases in need of additional medical expert involvement, Hartford says.
