Fidelity Investments announced that Norman Malo, president and CEO of its clearing firm, National Financial, will retire from the company effective March 2009. Malo joined Fidelity in 1997 from Shearson Lehman Brothers and has led National Financial since March 2003. ? The SEC named Robert Malhotra to serve in its Office of the Chief Accountant as a senior advisor. Malhotra has been serving as a professional accounting fellow in OCA. Prior to joining the SEC staff, he was a senior manager with KPMG LLP. ? Putnam Investments named Edmund Murphy as managing director and head of Defined Contribution. Most recently, he served as executive VP of distribution for Personal and Workplace Investing at Fidelity Investments from 2007-08. ? Lord Abbett announced that Robert Fetch, partner, will assume responsibility for the newly created position of director of Domestic Equity Portfolio Management. He will relinquish his role as portfolio manager for the firm’s small cap value strategy, retain his responsibilities as lead portfolio manager for the firm’s multi cap value strategy, and assume new responsibility as lead portfolio manager for the firm’s mid cap value strategy. Fetch joined Lord Abbett in 1995 as director of Small Cap Value Management. ? SEC Chairman Mary Schapiro announced that David Becker will return to the agency later this month as its General Counsel and Senior Policy Director. Becker previously served as SEC General Counsel from January 2000 to May 2002 after joining the SEC staff as Deputy General Counsel in 1998 from Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP, where he was a partner in the firm’s Washington D.C. office. ? The Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company appointed David O’Malley to executive VP. O’Malley joined Penn Mutual’s Investment Department in 1994. ? MassMutual’s Retirement Services Division appointed Tom Cremona as vice president of client relationship management. Cremona assumes responsibility for client relationship management from Marie Augsberger who recently left MassMutual due to personal reasons. Cremona was most recently the northeast division sales manager. ? Sentinel Investments, the investment management arm of National Life Group, added to its distribution team. As part of the expansion, Jamie Atkinson has been named national sales manager. He joined the firm in early 2008 as senior VP, Eastern Division Sales Manager. ? AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company named William Degnan president of the Advantage Group, a unit of AXA Equitable. He succeeds Vincent Parascandola, who has been named president of the Northern Division of AXA Advisors. Degnan has been with AXA Advisors for more than 25 years.
