An insurance technology company that has changed its focus over the years is transferring the majority of its health insurance business to a Web health broker.

EHealth Inc., Mountain View, Calif., the company that runs eHealthInsurance, has agreed to take over a book of health insurance business from Health Benefits Direct Corp., Radnor, Pa., the companies say.

Health Benefits Direct also will refer all ongoing health prospects to eHealth, the companies say.

The deal includes all individual and family major medical and ancillary members holding plans issued by 5 large carriers.

The membership transfer has been made with the approval of the health insurers, eHealth and Health Benefits Direct say.

Health Benefits Direct once sold health insurance through the Web but now is focusing on providing Web services for insurance producers, the company says.

Health Benefits Direct will share in future revenues generated by the membership transfer and later health prospect referrals, the company says.
