An insurer will be taking customer service inquiries on Saturdays and holidays and letting disability claimants do more over the telephone.

CIGNA Corp., Philadelphia, says its medical, dental and health benefit plans will start handling calls from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern Time on Saturdays and 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on holidays starting Feb. 28.

The company also will let disability insureds who report claims over the telephone to give permission over the telephone for CIGNA to obtain medical records.

The telephone permission option should speed up the claim evaluation process, CIGNA says.
