A Midwestern insurer is looking for for 10 small and midsize employers that are doing a good job sailing their benefits programs through the economic storm.

The insurer, Principal Financial Group Inc., is seeking entries for its eighth annual 10 Best Companies for Employee Financial Security program.

The program recognizes employers with 5 to 1,000 employees that offer deep, broad benefits packages and do a good job of educating employees about the value of their benefits.

This year, judges will evaluate companies in the context of current economic conditions, and they will recognize that some employers will need to adjust benefits programs to cope with the effects of the downturn, Principal says.

Entries are due May 1.
