A medical travel company says Medicare and Medicaid plans should consider helping participants go outside the United States when non-U.S. health care is less expensive.

BridgeHealth International Inc., Denver, a company that sells medical travel services to health insurers and other payers, notes that Medicare recipients living abroad already can use Medicare to pay for care at international hospitals.

The United Kingdom National Health Service has been using BridgeHealth to help NHS plan members seek care in the European Union, BridgeHealth says.
