Assurant Health, Milwaukee, has announced that its health plan members can now receive in-network benefits at all Take Care Clinics, located at 322 Walgreens drugstores in 35 markets and 18 states. Take Care Clinics are walk-in, professional health care centers open seven days a week with extended evening and weekend hours.

Take Care Clinics are staffed by board-certified family nurse practitioners and physician assistants who diagnose and treat patients 18 months and older for common, non-emergency illnesses such as strep throat, ear and sinus infections, and poison ivy. Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants are licensed to write prescriptions that can be filled at the patient's pharmacy of choice.

This new Assurant Health service is available through its agreement with Take Care Health Systems, the largest provider of convenient care clinics and worksite health and wellness centers in the country and a wholly owned subsidiary of Walgreens (NYSE, NASDAQ: WAG). With the addition of these clinics, Assurant Health customers with Individual Medical, Short Term Medical, and Real Choices Small Group plans will have access to more than 800 retail health clinics throughout the U.S.

At Take Care Clinics, patients pay their co-payment, coinsurance, or deductible amounts for covered services. Conveniently located at select Walgreens drugstores across the country, clinics provide care for individuals that fits their schedule and helps keep patients out of the emergency room for non-urgent conditions.

"This agreement is part of our continuing commitment to give our customers more choices and convenient access to affordable health care options," said Scott Krienke, Senior Vice President, Product Lines, at Assurant Health.

"We are delighted to partner with Assurant Health to offer their customers and plan members high-quality, convenient and affordable healthcare built around their needs," said Peter Miller, President and CEO of Take Care Health Systems. "Our goal is to provide access to care to as many individuals as possible. Partnering with companies like Assurant Health allows us to offer our model of care to more individuals across the country, and this national contract sets the stage for continued coverage as we expand our model to new markets and states."

In addition to treating common episodic ailments such as colds, influenza, rashes, and muscle strains, the Take Care Health Providers offer immunizations, physicals, and diagnostic health screenings. Most of the clinics are located in high-traffic urban and suburban shopping centers, conveniently located where most individuals work or live.

Assurant Health recently added two other services to its plans as part of its ongoing effort to help customers make smart, cost-effective healthcare decisions. Its customers now have free telephone access to Patient Care, an independent advocacy company, which helps them better understand their health insurance and make good choices regarding physicians and hospitals. Customers can also call toll-free TelaDoc Medical Services, the nation's leading platform in telehealth, for on-demand counsel from the nation's leading network of board-certified, licensed primary care physicians.
