The federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality plans to conduct a national telephone survey to measure use of health information technology.

The AHRQ, an arm of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, says it wants to use the surveys to estimate the number of people who can get medication information online; the number of clinicians who can get evidenced-based prevention or treatment information online; the number of clinician organizations that have adopted evidence-based decision support technologies; and reductions in medication errors resulting from use of electronic prescribing systems.
