Dworkin To Lead NAILBA

Gary Dworkin has been elected chairman of the National Association of Independent Life Brokerage Agencies.

Dworkin, president of Dworkin Associates Inc./LifeMark Partners Inc. Rochester, N.H., succeeds Doug Mishkin, president of Algren Park Avenue Brokerage L.L.C., New York, according to NAILBA, Fairfax, Va.

NAILBA elected Dworkin chairman in San Diego, at its annual meeting.

The annual meeting drew about 1,500 attendees and 120 exhibitors, NAILBA says.

In addition to electing Dworkin chairman, the group elected Mark Rosen of Pittsburgh to be chairman-elect; Christi Daughenbaugh of Dallas to be treasurer; and Dexter Umekubo of Salina, Kan., to be secretary.

Jack Chiasson continues to be executive director.

NAILBA also presented its 2008 Douglas Mooers Award for Excellence to George Van Dusen III, president of Diversified Brokerage Services Inc., Minneapolis, Minn.

The award recognizes a lifetime service to the life insurance business, the wholesale brokerage community and society.

During the annual meeting, David Lea III, of Brokers’ Service Marketing Group, Providence, RI., said NAILBA’s Charitable Foundation had awarded a total of $200,000 in grants to charities during the past year. The foundation has since reported that it received more $150,000 in contributions during the annual meeting.

The association also has established a new grant, the J. William Felton III Grant Award, which will now be the largest NAILBA award.
