Maurice Greenberg, the former chairman and chief executive officer of American International Group Inc., is one of the individuals who was invited to testify Oct. 7 before the House Oversight Committee.

When this item was originally posted, there was some indication that the hearing had been canceled.

A spokesman for Greenberg, who is now the chairman of C.V. Starr & Company Inc., New York, an insurance broker, now says Greenberg believes the hearing will go on.

Greenberg plans to testify in Washington sometime in the next week to 10 days, the spokesman says.

Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., chairman of the committee, originally invited Greenberg and others to testify on the “regulatory mistakes and financial excesses” that led to the government takeover of AIG, New York.

Other individuals invited to testify included 2 other former AIG CEOs, Robert Willumstad and Martin Sullivan; Lynn Turner, the former chief accountant of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission; and New York State Insurance Superintendent Eric Dinallo.
