A large health insurer is taking a break from the week’s financial storms and helping Texas residents cope with the hurricane that affected millions of people in that state this past weekened.

UnitedHealth Group Inc., Minnetonka, Minn., says its Plano, Texas, unit is donating $100,000 to the American Red Cross to support emergency relief and recovery efforts.

UnitedHealth also has donated water and other supplies, and it has opened its OptumHealth Help Line to all residents from the area affected by Ike.

Help line staffers can counsel callers suffering from anxiety and depression, and they can refer callers to community resources, UnitedHealth says.

Texas residents can reach the help line at (866) 342-6892.
