A group insurance giant is using demographic data and basic preferences data to help workers get through the benefits maze.

A unit of MetLife Inc., New York, has introduced the Employee Benefits Simplifier system, a free, Web-based tool at Document Link

Workers can enter life stage information and other information and then get a list of products that MetLife believes the workers should consider buying.

The suggestions may include both employer-paid and employee-paid products, along with explanations about why a worker might decide in favor or against buying each product.
