McLaughlin To Lead SOA

Members of the Society of Actuaries have elected S. Michael McLaughlin to be president of the group during the 2009-2010 term.

McLaughlin will start by serving as president-elect during the 2008-2009 term, according to the SOA, Schaumburg, Ill.

McLaughlin is a principal in the Chicago office of Deloitte Consulting L.L.P., where he leads a team of 650 professionals in 30 countries.

He is a fellow of the Society of Actuaries since 2001 and also holds the SOA’s Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst designation.

McLaughlin says he wants to increase actuarial employment opportunities in enterprise risk management and other areas while maintaining and enhancing the value of actuarial credentials.

McLaughlin received 53% of the votes cast.

Kathleen Wong received 47% of the votes cast.

SOA members also elected 3 vice presidents: Errol Cramer, Tom Bakos and James Glickman.
