SOA Changes Voting Rules

The Society of Actuaries will be giving associate members more of a say in running the group.

The SOA, Schaumburg, Ill., says SOA fellows have agreed to permit some holders of the Associate of Society of Actuaries and Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst designations to vote in elections for president-elect, vice presidents, and elected board members.

The changes affects individuals who hold the ASA or CERA designations for at least 5 years, the SOA says.

To change the voting rules, advocates of the change needed the approval of two-thirds of the voting SOA fellows, and they needed to persuade at least 25% of the fellows to vote.

The SOA says 3,850 of the 12,229 eligible voters voted. About 69% of the participating voters cast votes in favor of changing the voting rules, the group says.
