The Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education has named the recipients of the 2008 realLIFE stories client service awards.

LIFE, Arlington, Va., is the nonprofit group that is working to make September Life Insurance Awareness Month.

The realLIFE award program recognizes insurance agents who use life insurance, disability insurance and related products to make a dramatic difference in clients’ lives.

“These stories remind people that none of us knows what the future will bring, and that’s why preparing for the unexpected through proper insurance planning is so vitally important,” NAIFA President Marvin Feldman says in a statement.

The latest award recipients are

- Michael Tokushige of Honolulu, who works for a unit of Principal Financial Group Inc., Des Moines, Iowa. He sold a life insurance to a firefighter who was about to marry. The firefighter died when he was 38, and the policy protected his wife and 2 children.

- Lynne Crittenden of Altavista, Va., who works for State Farm Life Insurance Company, a unit of State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, Bloomington, Ill. Crittenden persuaded a disabled single mother to keep her whole life insurance policy in force. The mother died in a car accident in 2006.

- Bob Arensberg of Wichita, Kan., who works for New York Life Insurance Company. Arensberg sold a life insurance policy to the wife of a disabled man. The wife later died of cancer, and the life insurance enabled the husband and 2 children to stay in the family home.

- Kassie Bennett of Charlotte, N.C., who works for CIGNA Corp., Philadelphia, and Jan Cox of Spartanburg, S.C., who works for Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System. Bennett and Cox helped a young nurse with multiple sclerosis use disability insurance benefits keep working.
