Aetna Offers Health Records To Medicare Members

Aetna Inc. is allowing some Medicare members to have access to their own personal health records.

The company says it is allowing Medicare members who bought their plans individually to have access to its health record system to help them to better manage their own health. The action will also make it easier for Medicare members to share health information with physicians, says Aetna, Hartford.

The health record system gathers information from physician offices, labs, diagnostic treatment, facilities, pharmacies and other health care sources, providing user-entered information such as family history or allergies.

Aetna has also made the system available online to treating physicians’ offices if given permission by the member.

Its record system is powered by CareEngine, a technology service from ActiveHealth Management Inc., New York.
