The Consumer-Purchaser Disclosure Project has chosen the National Committee for Quality Assurance to evaluate health insurer physician quality rating programs.
The San Francisco-based project, which represents many large insurers as well as employer and provider groups, released a set of quality program standards in April.
The standards require insurers to have independent reviewers monitor their physician quality rating programs.
The NCQA, Washington, is best known for rating health maintenance organization plans and preferred provider organization plans.
