A health quality group has established 2 new pharmacy benefit manager quality programs.
URAC, Washington, says its board has approved a specialty pharmacy accreditation program and a mail service pharmacy accreditation program.
The programs, based on draft standards released in July 2007, have been in use at 13 test sites, URAC reports.
The specialty pharmacy program will accredit pharmacies that provide specialized services for patients with unusually complicated or specialized prescription needs.
The mail service pharmacy program will accredit pharmacies that focus on shipping low-cost maintenance medications by mail to patients with chronic conditions.
