A healthcare savings account vendor has teamed up with INSNET LLC to offer individuals a negotiating service to help lower their medical bills.

Typically, this type of bill-reduction service is offered to big companies and employers, notes HSA for America, which is offering the INSNET program to its members.

HSA for America, Fort Collins, Colo., provides healthcare savings accounts to individuals who are members of high-deductible health care plans.

Because individuals with HSA accounts know it’s mostly their own money they’re spending on health care, not their insurance company’s, they could use the services of a company that will negotiate their health care claims, notes HSA for America.

INSNET is part of Insurance Negotiating Service, Westport, Maine, which helps insurance companies and self-funded employers save health care costs by negotiating medical claims. INSNET brings the same bargaining expertise to individuals.

INSNET evaluates medical expenses submitted and compares them to other provider rates in the member’s area. If it finds lower prices, INSNET will contact the provider to attempt to lower the bill. If successful, the individual keeps 70% of the savings, at a special rate it offers HSA for America members.
