A team of 1,000 volunteers helped a long term care insurer raise $203,000 in contributions for people with Alzheimer’s disease, up from $167,000 in 2007.

Bankers Life and Casualty Company, Chicago, an arm of Conseco Inc., Carmel, Ind., says volunteers who participated in its annual “Forget Me Not Days” program collected the donations – for the Alzheimer’s Association, Chicago – on street corners in more than 104 cities in mid-May.

The volunteers increased the number of cities participating from 90 in 2007.

Bankers Life says it supplemented the money the volunteers raised by making an additional $100,000 donation to the association.
