The Ohio Department of Insurance wants to help health carriers and doctors communicate with one another more effectively.

The department has set up an Advisory Committee on Eligibility and Real Time Claim Adjudication that plans to hold its first meeting July 22 in Columbus, Ohio.

Committee members will try to develop recommendations for the Ohio General Assembly to simplify and standardize the steps doctors follow to determine whether patients are eligible for health insurance reimbursement for the doctors’ services.

Members also will talk about changes that could permit insurers to tell doctors exactly how much they intend to pay the doctors and what the patients’ bills will be while the patients are in the doctors’ offices, officials say.
