Scott Leavitt is the new president of the National Association of Health Underwriters.

Leavitt, who succeeds president Beth Ashmore, says “Educating America” will be the theme of his presidency, according to NAHU, Arlington, Va.

NAHU represents 20,000 health insurance agents and brokers.

Members of the public must become “consumers of health care” as opposed to “patients of health care” whenever possible, Leavitt said, according to a summary of his remarks provided by NAHU.

“We owe it to our consumers and to all Americans to make sure that they understand the importance of health care, the reasons behind health care costs, and what they themselves can do to reduce some of these costs,” Leavitt said.

Leavitt is president of Scott Leavitt Insurance & Financial Services, Boise, Idaho. He is a past president of the Idaho Association of Health Underwriters.
