The U.S. Department of Labor wants to fill 5 seats on the 15-member employee welfare and pension plan advisory council.

The council helps the secretary of Labor carry out duties related to the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974.

One of the council members whose terms expire in November represents the investment management industry, and another member represents employers, officials say.

The other council members whose terms are expiring represent employee organizations, employers and the general public.

Council members serve 3-year terms, and the council meets at least 4 times a year.

No more than 8 council members can be members of the same political party.

Nominations are due Aug. 31.
