A 65-year old couple retiring in 2008 will need $85,000 to insure against long term care expenses, Fidelity Investments estimates.

Fidelity, Boston, bases its estimate on expected costs for a 65-year old couple in moderately good health that owns a joint LTC insurance policy with inflation protection from a unit of Genworth Financial Inc., Richmond, Va.

The policy could reimburse the couple for about $624,000 in LTC costs, Fidelity estimates.
