A managed care company is trying to help members who are new mothers overcome postpartum depression.
WellPoint Inc., Indianapolis, says it will be making the company’s Maternity Depression Program available to all members by the end of the year.
WellPoint began testing the program on members of some of its plans in 2007. The company now is in the process of expanding access to the program.
The program screens new mothers for signs of depression. It also will offer physicians sample screening tools, educational handouts for patients, and physician-level educational materials.
