BlueChoice HealthPlan of South Carolina is trying to improve members’ health by going after a common, potentially disabling condition.
BlueChoice, part of BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, Columbia, S.C., is starting a Great Expectations Back Care program.
Administrators of the program, available to the 200,000 BlueChoice plan members, will identify members with back pain and enroll them in the program automatically.
Members can choose to opt out.
Members who stay in the program will get recommendations for exercises that can prevent future back injuries.
Members with chronic, severe back pain will get one-on-one case management.
