HealthMarkets Inc. has hired Phillip Hildebrand to be chief executive officer.
Hildebrand previously was vice chairman of New York Life Insurance Company, New York.
Hildebrand succeeds William Gedwed, who resigned to become vice chairman of HealthMarkets in April.
HealthMarkets sells health insurance and related products to individuals, small groups and people who are self-employed. Subsidiaries include the MEGA Life and Health Insurance Company, Mid-West National Life Insurance Company of Tennessee and The Chesapeake Life Insurance Company.
Hildebrand has a bachelor’s degree from Northern Arizona University. He is a past member of the board of the Million Dollar Round Table Foundation, Park Ridge, Ill., and of LIMRA International, Windsor, Conn.
