A managed care giant has combined third-party administration operations it already owned with newly acquired TPA operations.

The UnitedHealthcare arm of UnitedHealth Group Inc., Minnetonka, Minn., has melded the independent benefits administration units of Fiserv Health, which was acquired from Fiserv Inc., Brookfield, Wis., earlier this year, and Midwest Security Life Insurance Company, Onalaska, Wis., a company acquired in 2003, with the benefits administration unit at UnitedHealthcare’s own, homegrown United Medical Resources business.

The new TPA business, UMR, will provide integrated health benefit management for self-funded, dental, vision, disability and medical plans, UnitedHealth says.

The head of the TPA unit will be Jay Anliker, who previously was president of Fiserv Health, UnitedHealth says.
