Personnel Changes: Rumson, AIG, Others

Rumson Capital L.P. has hired Todd Shelbaugh to be executive vice president.

Shelbaugh previously was vice president of National Wealth Advisors, Naples, Fla., according to Rumson, Jenkintown, Pa., a life settlement company.

Rumson also has named Robert Meyer to be president. Meyer previously was the firm’s general counsel.

David Wright, who has been national sales manager, will become vice president of marketing.

Robert Daly will become director of life settlements.

In other personnel news:

- AIG American General, Houston, a unit of American International Group Inc., New York, has named Durr Sexton president of the AIG American General annuity operation.

Sexton previously was senior vice president for regional accounts management at AIG American General’s life brokerage operation.

Sexton has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Syracuse University.

- AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company, New York, a unit of AXA S.A., Paris, has named Gary Hirschkron president of AXA Partners, the life insurance arm of AXA Distributors L.L.C., Farmington, Conn.

Hirschkron has been a managing director at AXA Partners.

Hirschkron has a bachelor’s degree in modern European history from Princeton University. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries.

- Harleysville Group Inc., Harleysville, Pa., has named Theodore Majewski president of Harleysville Life Insurance Company.

Majewski, who has been manager of personal lines operations at Harleysville, will keep that responsibility, Harleysville says.

Majewski succeeded William Shelow, who has left the company, Harleysville says.

- Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America, Minneapolis, a unit of Allianz S.E., Munich, has hired Kirk Williams to be vice president of human resources

Williams previously was vice president of labor and employee relations at Honeywell International Inc., Morristown, N.J.

Williams has a law degree.

- Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company, Springfield, Mass., has hired Jeffrey Backofen to be assistant vice president of the company’s U.S. insurance group underwriting division.

Backofen previously was chief underwriter at the life insurance arm of Phoenix Companies Inc., Hartford.

Backofen has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut. He is a Fellow of the Life Management Institute.

- The American College, Bryn Mawr, Pa., has named Mary Quist-Newins to be the State Farm chair in women and financial services.

Quist-Newins previously was a senior financial consultant at Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Minneapolis.

Quist-Newins has a master’s degree in business from the Garvin School of International Management.

She holds the Chartered Life Underwriter, Chartered Financial Consultant and Certified Financial Planner professional designations.

- The Society of Actuaries, Schaumburg, Ill., has hired Andrew Peterson to be a retirement staff fellow.

Peterson previously was a consulting actuary in the Chicago office of Watson Wyatt Worldwide.

Peterson has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Taylor University. He holds the Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and Fellow of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries professional designations.
