A player in the individual health market has a new top-level executive.
HealthMarkets Inc., North Richland Hills, Texas, has named David Fields to become president of the company June 1.
Fields, who has been chief operating officer since November 2007, is succeeding William Gedwed, who will become vice chairman of HealthMarkets.
HealthMarkets is the parent of the MEGA Life and Health Insurance Company, Mid-West National Life Insurance Company of Tennessee and the Chesapeake Life Insurance Company.
Before Fields joined HealthMarkets, he was chief executive officer of UniCare Life and Health Insurance Company, a unit of WellPoint Inc., Indianapolis.
Fields holds the Certified Public Accountant professional designation.
