Doug Ommen, the top Missouri insurance regulator, could be moving on.

Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt, R, has nominated Ommen to the Missouri Administrative Hearing Commission, which handles disputes involving state agencies.

Ommen now is director of the Missouri Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration.

He previously was the department’s deputy director and general counsel.

In a statement, Ommen says he is grateful for the opportunity to serve Missouri consumers as department director. “But I look forward to this new challenge as I continue my service to the citizens of this state,” Ommen says.

The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Missouri Senate.

If Ommen is confirmed, his term on the hearing commission will end in 2014.

Blunt has not yet announced how he will handle the vacancy at the Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Regulation once Ommen leaves his current post, a department representative says.
