IRS Asks For Guidance Wish List

NU Online News Service, April 18, 2008,4:30 p.m. EDT

The Internal Revenue Service wants to know what members of the public want to know.

The IRS has published an invitation, in IRS Notice 2008-47, for members of the public to give it recommendations for projects that belong on the 2008-2009 IRS Guidance Priority List.

IRS staffers will use the list when deciding what batches of guidance to issue between July 1, 2008, and June 30, 2009.

The IRS will consider factors such as whether a proposed guidance would affect many taxpayers, whether the guidance would promote sound tax administration, and whether the IRS could administer the recommended guidance on a uniform basis, officials write in the notice.

Suggestions for entries on the original 2008-2009 Guidance Priority List are due May 31.
