As the life expectancies of Americans grow and the lifestyles of retirees continue to change, financial advisors and planners need to stay educated on all the latest and greatest information available. That can be a difficult task, as advisors try to run successful practices and stay involved in their family life. A well-known insurance company and educational institution have combined forces to give advisors an edge.

The American College announced it is opening a new center targeted toward retirement planners. Made possible by a $2 million donation from New York Life Insurance Co., the New York Life Center for Retirement Income will help address demand for wellplanned retirement income solutions. The Center will provide funding for continuing education; it will create an annual guide for retirement planners; it will provide continuing retirement income research; and it will host a professor of retirement and finance, a doctoral fellow and support staff.

“The creation of the New York Life Center for Retirement Income provides The American College with the vital resources necessary to expand the boundaries of knowledge and understanding and gain insight into the complex financial challenges facing today’s older Americans,” said Walt Woerheide, vice president of academic affairs, dean, professor of investments and holder of the Frank M. Engle Distinguished Chair in Economic Security Research at The College.
