Mutual of Omaha, recognizing the reality that Americans are going to work longer in the coming years, has expanded its disability insurance plans, creating a portfolio of DI options. Called “Disability Income Choice Portfolio,” the DI choices allow clients to purchase more than one type of coverage with a single application and underwriting. The portfolio’s four plans are:
- Short-term accident only
- Short-term accident/sickness
- Long-term accident/sickness
- Business operating expense
The features of the new plans include the following:
- Benefits available to age 67 (in a nod to longer working lives)
- Terminal illness benefit as a standard feature
- Own occupation protection for duration of benefit period
- Single application covers all portfolio products
- Express underwriting, 48 hours, on shortterm coverage
Included in the portfolio are many optional riders to make the products customizable:
- Hospital confinement
- Return of premium
- Future insurability
- Cost of living adjustment
- Social insurance supplement
