How did your relationship with your financial advisor come about?

“I work with a guy who mostly handles my retirement accounts. When I started a 401(k) at a different company and then got a new job, I needed to roll my 401(k) money into an IRA. When I was doing that, I initially dealt with one of the more experienced advisors, but soon after that my account was sent to be handled by a much younger one. I think it’s because the older guy probably only wanted to work with really big accounts, so I got knocked down to someone newer and younger who handles the smaller accounts.”

“My brother-in-law finally convinced us to go out and get a financial advisor. He was probably just tired of us asking him for advice. So he put us in touch with the advisor he’s been using for years, and he always said what a great job she did and how he really trusted her judgment. After our first meeting with her, we agreed with my husband’s brother, and we’ve been using her now for years.”

“I don’t have an advisor right now, but my kids will be ready for college pretty soon and the only retirement money I have is the money in a 12-year-old 401(k) from my work. It’s funny that you ask, because I’ve been asking friends and family if they know of any good advisors for about two weeks now.”

“A local financial planner offered to give the members of our church a free seminar on having money for retirement and annuities. I had no idea what an annuity even was, but he was very knowledgeable and answered lots of questions. At the end of the seminar, we all got coffee and dessert, and could fill out a form if we wanted to schedule a meeting with him. We did, and that’s how we found our advisor.”
