The National Business Coalition on Health says it has obtained broad support for physician evaluation program principles.

The NBCH, Washington, says its new Patient Charter for Physician Performance Measurement, Reporting, and Tiering Programs establishes specific criteria for physician rating programs and requires to go through an independent review process.

Supporters include America’s Health Insurance Plans, Washington, along with carriers such as Aetna Inc., Hartford; CIGNA Corp., Philadelphia; UnitedHealth Group Inc., Minnetonka, Minn.; and WellPoint Inc., Indianapolis.

Provider groups backing the charter include the American Medical Association, Chicago, and the American College of Physicians, Philadelphia.
