An actuarial consulting firm has come out with a new version of a reference tool that many managed care companies use when overseeing patient care.
Researchers at Milliman Care Guidelines L.L.C., a unit of Milliman Inc., Seattle, have published Milliman Care Guidelines 12th Edition.
The software version of the guidelines works better with major health plan administration systems, and it now includes a new behavioral health management module, Milliman says.
The new version also includes more English-language and Spanish-language patient education materials for patients with chronic health problems; an updated system for adding documentation of care to electronic health records; and 21 new ambulatory care authorization guidelines.
The inpatient and surgery section includes guidelines concerning topics such as central venous catheter complications, Milliman says.
