Protective Names Chief Distribution Officer and Chief Information Officer

Protective Life Corporation, Birmingham, Ala., has announced that John Deremo has been named senior vice president and Chief Distribution Officer and that David Gutierrez has joined the company as senior vice president and Chief Information Officer. Both of these leaders will be reporting to Carolyn Johnson, executive vice president and Chief Operating Officer.

As the company’s senior vice president and Chief Distribution Officer, Mr. Deremo will be a key member of the life and annuity division leadership team with overall responsibility for the sales, marketing, and distribution functions of both Protective Life Insurance Company and West Coast Life Insurance Company.

In his position as senior vice president and Chief Information Officer, Mr. Gutierrez will provide leadership for the strategic development and management of information, information resources, and technology to support the fulfillment of Protective’s business strategies. Mr. Gutierrez is a thirty year veteran in the information technology arena.

About John Deremo
Mr. Deremo most recently led Protective’s sales and marketing efforts for the institutional distribution group. John has been employed with Protective Life for over 16 years and is a 28 year veteran of the insurance industry.

About David Gutierrez
Mr. Gutierrez most recently served as regional Chief Information Officer for ING Insurance Americas. In that capacity, he was responsible for overseeing strategy in the U.S., Canadian, and Latin American markets. Prior to that role, Mr. Gutierrez served as CIO for ING Latin America where he developed the technology strategy for ING subsidiaries throughout Mexico, Peru, Brazil, Argentina, and Chile.
