Symetra Life Insurance Company has added critical illness insurance provisions to its limited benefit medical plan.

Symetra, part of Symetra Financial Corp., Bellevue, Wash., says its Select Benefits limited benefit medical policy will pay a lump sum when an insured is first diagnosed with a covered serious condition.

The list of triggering conditions include invasive cancer, heart attack and stroke.

The policy will pay lump sums of $5,000 or $10,000 to insureds who qualify for the benefits, Symetra says.

Insureds can use the payments for any purpose.
