A nonprofit organization affiliated with an insurer is changing the way it shares its holdings with the public.
The Lincoln Financial Foundation, Fort Wayne, an affiliate of Lincoln National Corp., Philadelphia, says it will be closing the Lincoln Museum in Fort Wayne, looking for ways to share the museum collections with other museums, and digitize the many documents it holds to make the documents available to more people.
The foundation, which is making the changes in time for the Abraham Lincoln bicentennial in 2009, says the museum collection includes 5,000 original 19th century photographs, 350 documents signed by Abraham Lincoln, 200,000 newspapers and magazine clippings, a copy of the Emancipation Proclamation, and 1 of 13 copies of the Thirteenth Amendment that was signed by Lincoln.
