An insurer will be the first founding partner supporting a high-profile women’s health charity.

Hartford Financial Services Group Inc., Hartford, has agreed to help pay for the cost of running the Kay Yow/Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Cancer Foundation, Cary, N.C.

Kay Yow, the coach of the North Carolina State women’s basketball team, is still coaching the team despite coping with the effects of advanced breast cancer.

Hundreds of colleges, companies and other organizations have been recognizing Yow’s efforts with a “Think Pink” breast cancer awareness campaign.

In addition to being a basketball coach, Yow is a past president of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association, Lilburn, Ga.

The foundation named in Yow’s honor was started together with help from the V Foundation for Cancer Research, Cary, N.C.
