Hawkeye State insurance regulators have chosen RSM McGladrey Inc. to help them run a multi-state examination program.

The Iowa Insurance Division will use RSM McGladrey, Minneapolis, to monitor the progress of the managed care arm of UnitedHealth Group Inc., Minnetonka, Minn., at meeting the terms of a new process improvement plan.

UnitedHealth’s managed care unit agreed to the plan to resolve an exam conducted on behalf of 38 states.

Iowa was one of 5 lead states and now is serving as the lead examining state.

Iowa’s regulatory law will govern the exam process, officials say.

UnitedHealth will be responsible for paying for the examinations.
